WARD NEWS
A FRUSTRATING STORY
PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS
The funding and plans for a light-controlled pedestrian crossing point in Shelf (outside the new library, village hall and nursery) were in place during the 2009/10 year. However local objections, including Highway Code violations, meant the original plans were altered. This seemingly didn‟t prevent local objections because the bus stops needed to be moved and that brought objections from other residents who would have a bus stop outside their property. So as we take this to press the only op-tion still in with a chance is the “stretching” of the pedestrian refuge which already exists near the Village Hall entrance.
As for Northowram we are being constantly told that it doesn‟t meet “the scores on the doors” yet the number of pedestrian crossings per day are probably as high as anywhere. Seems we require volunteers to shed their blood on the road in order to get a good crossing near to a junction which has had more than its fair share of bumps, scrunches and smashes over the years!
ONGOING PROBLEM AT PROSPECT STREET
Prospect Street remains closed we are sorry to report. Whilst there are on-going meetings between the council‟s engineers and Blackshaw Holdings there is disagreement as to what is required. According to the council engineers the reason for the slip again is because the land was packed in on an incline which is too steep to maintain stability. In reality it needs either a 3 yard high and deep wall to retain the land or excavation and stone steps built in to prevent movement.
The land is part Council and part Blackshaw Holdings and as such both parties are agreed to fund the repair work. On going to press the council‟s engineers were consulting with Blackshaw Holdings to agree a scheme which means this will NOT happen again. Recently, affected residents should have had a letter drop from the council explaining the situation and keeping them updated
THANK YOU!
Thank you for putting your faith in the Conservative Team once again.
