Despite being the largest Political party on Calderdale Council with 21 seats we have been excluded from playing a meaningful role in the running of the Council.
The Liberal Democrat and Labour parties have again joined together to keep Cllr Janet Battye as the Liberal Democrat leader of the Council.
How can Cllr Battye have the mandate to run the Council when she leads a Party with only 13 seats on the Council and obtained only 18% share of the vote in the local elections this year.
The Liberal Democrat vote collapsed culminating with them loosing seats to both Conservative and Labour .
This is turning the fundamental principle of democracy – that the Party with the most electoral support should have the most power – on its head.
The electorate gave a clear view that they were not happy with her leadership yet she shows real contempt to the views of the people of Calderdale.
